The rice jar in Kon Pring village is no longer... "hungry"

In spring, KonPring village wears colorful shirts, making everyone amazed by the natural beauty here. During spring days, tourists come here to immerse themselves in the cold weather, learn about the customs of local people, stay overnight, drink can wine, light campfires, watch gong playing, sinus dancing, Enjoy typical dishes of the mountains and forests... right in the peaceful houses of KonPring.

This year's Tet, Mr. A Lum and the people of KonPring village have gradually become accustomed to groups of visitors coming to "play" with the villagers. They enjoy can wine and traditional cuisine of the MoNam people with excitement. Thanks to welcoming tourist groups from far away, A Lum's income increased better than before. A Lum's family used to have difficulties, their jar of rice was always "hungry", but when they learned how to do community tourism, their jar of rice has never been empty, thanks to their stable average cash income of 3 - 5 million VND/month.

The "peaks" of Kon Pring

KonPring village now has 67 rooftops with 250 people and is still as authentic as before, although every day tourists still stay here, living and experiencing with the villagers from eating and drinking to the bustling campfire space of the 22 gong team. people, walking Hi Am waterfall, enjoying fresh, peaceful nature...

The kindness of the villagers in the vast mountains and forests has always "held" the feet of groups of tourists from far away. KonPring is a village with "peaks" compared to many other villages in KonTum. Firstly, KonPring is unique because it retains the communal house in the center of the village in the original style of the old Xe Dang village (the MoNam people are a branch of the Xe Dang people). In addition, they still keep playing gongs like they have done for a long time; including sinus dancing to traditional melodies. Meanwhile, many other villages no longer know how to play gongs or dance sinuses, and even sell all gongs to traders...

Mr. Quach Van Dien, Vice Chairman of DakLong Commune People's Committee, Head of KonPring Village Homestay Tourism Management Board, said: "Developing community tourism here, in addition to promoting unique cultural values, people can receive direct income from services provided to customers, earning much higher income than agricultural production. This is an effective way to help local socio-economic development, raise awareness, life for the local MoNam people in the transmission of cultural identity".

According to Mr. Quach Van Dien, before KonPring started homestay tourism, the village sent 3 households to Hoa Binh and Lao Cai to learn Thai people's skills to return to work. Up to now, they are somewhat aware of being a homestay to earn an income while preserving village customs and culture, and more and more households are registering to work, serving the accommodation needs of guests.

The girl's love for the MoNam people

The people of Kon Pring village are gradually changing their lives by making a breakthrough with homestay tourism among thousands of pine trees. During that life-changing journey, there was the love of a girl originally from KonPring itself. That is Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang, founder of Mang Den Dai Thousand Tourism Company Limited in 2014. KonPring is also where Ms. Thuy Trang "fell in love" with community tourism.

According to Ms. Thuy Trang, she also has a personal relationship with the Mo Nam people in Kon Pring. In 1986, her father, Mr. Nguyen Van Bang (55 years old), moved to Mang Den land, Mang Canh commune, Kon Ray district (Kon Plong district now) to work as a pine plantation worker. The love that blossomed in the new land gave birth to the second generation, Ms. Thuy Trang. When Ms. Thuy Trang was born, her parents took care of growing pine trees every day, so they sent her to the people of Kon Pring village to take care of her, chew rice and feed her, and carry her on a sling to the fields...

Over the past 30 years, pine trees have now stretched as far as the eye can see with an area of 4,000 hectares, greening the cool land of Kon Pring. Pine growers used to be in KonPring, now some stay, some go, some stay, some die.

Born and raised by the villagers, Ms. Thuy Trang grew up in the middle of the vast forest, lulled to sleep amid thousands of pine trees and the special gong melodies of the Mo Nam people. After successfully studying, Ms. Thuy Trang "gathered" a lot of knowledge about event organization, tourism and restaurants, hotels..., so she decided to return to Mang Den (Kon Plong district) to establish a LLC. Great Mang Den travel MTV. And since then, she has awakened KonPring's potential to "no longer sleep peacefully" among the thousands of pine trees.

The kindness has made Ms. Thuy Trang more motivated to work with the local government to revive the tourism village in Kon Pring.

However, the beginning here was very difficult, because the Mo Nam people were very "timid" in starting tourism. Every time guests return to the village, they are timid, not daring to talk or serve... When it comes to accommodation, the villagers do not know how to prepare food. Not to mention the lack of infrastructure, sanitation facilities, and other essential needs. People here are not aware that community tourism is a much more important source of income than going to the forest or farming. In addition, the villagers also "forgot" about weaving and blacksmithing, only knitting and making wine can...

"Even the village chief, hearing the guests coming, opened the door to his house, but the homeowner... was so embarrassed that he ran away," Ms. Thuy Trang said about her first days of doing community tourism here.

So Thuy Trang must "train" each family, motivate, encourage and guide wholeheartedly. When a group of tourists arrives, the "owner" of the travel company must appear 24/7, working from A to Z: guiding visitors, making food, preparing places to sleep, rest... diligently "training" practice", the villagers gradually get used to the "unique" way of doing homestay tourism in KonPring.
