Mang Ri - The "sacred land" then and now...

Located in the north of Tu Mo Rong district, Mang Ri commune is a revolutionary base, where the Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee was stationed during the resistance war against the US to save the country. This sacred land has gone down in history as the revolutionary struggle of the army and people of the Northern Central Highlands in the past. Today, it is known for its potential for developing industrial crops and medicinal plants, helping local ethnic minorities sustainably reduce poverty and strive to build a prosperous and happy life.

According to the history of the Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee, at the end of 1959, the Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee was moved from Nuoc Che, H29 (now Ngoc Tem Commune, Kon Plong District) to H80 (now Tu Mo Rong District) for the convenience of directing work. The Dak Y Hai stream area (including the large Dak Y Hai stream, the small Dak Y Hai stream) in Mang Xang Commune (now Mang Ri Commune) was chosen as the place to build the base. The location of the Provincial Party Committee office is in Mo Gia Village, Mang Ruong, Dak Vien. This area is strategically important for our military and politics. In the North, behind the base is the majestic Ngoc Linh mountain range; in the East is the Zone 5 Party Committee base; in the West and South are all resistance bases belonging to H30, H80, H16 of the province. Although it is mostly mountainous and strongly divided; However, this is also a place with abundant land, favorable for developing agricultural production, especially growing rice, cassava and corn; ensuring food for cadres who are attached to the base and operate long-term.

During the operation at this base, Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee held the 1st Congress of Delegates, at the foot of Ngoc Ang Mountain, near Mo Gia village in March 1960; held the 2nd Congress of Delegates in October 1965, in Dak Vien village. The Provincial Party Committee focused on directing the work, preparing forces to participate in the campaign to liberate Dak To - Tan Canh (April 1972), liberate Kon Tum (March 1975).

The revolutionary historical site of the Provincial Party Committee Base was ranked as a provincial-level relic by the Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee according to Decision No. 761/QD-UB dated August 2, 2007.

Mang Ri Commune, Tu Mo Rong District was established in July 2001 on the basis of separating Mang Xang Commune of Dak To District (old). As one of 11 particularly disadvantaged communes of Tu Mo Rong District, Mang Ri has experienced many difficulties and hardships during the construction process. The biggest obstacles are poor infrastructure, backward living habits, and self-sufficient production... In particular, the damage caused by storm No. 9 in 2009 has put the local Party Committee, government, and ethnic minorities in front of harsh challenges.

With the attention and investment of the Party and the State and the determination to promote the internal strength of Party committees, authorities, Fatherland Fronts, organizations at all levels and all classes of people, after nearly 10 years since the historic flood, Mang Ri commune has basically overcome the consequences of natural disasters, stabilized and created positive changes in production and all aspects of life and activities of local ethnic minorities.

Not only ensuring the cultivation of nearly 80 hectares of winter-spring rice, nearly 150 hectares of summer-autumn rice, maintaining more than 100 hectares of upland land mainly growing cassava and corn; up to now, people in villages and hamlets have developed over 200 hectares of catimo coffee trees thanks to the implementation of the Project to Support the Development of Cold-climate Coffee Trees of the province. Of which, more than 110 hectares have been harvested stably. Promoting the strengths of forests and forest land, Mang Ri commune has also planted over 320 hectares of boi loi, contracted to manage and protect nearly 1,800 hectares of protective forest...

The advantages of natural conditions and favorable natural characteristics have made Mang Ri a key area for growing the "hidden medicine" plant Ngoc Linh ginseng, which has been recognized as a "National Product" and medicinal herbs of economic value. Of the total area of nearly 330 hectares of Ngoc Linh ginseng grown in Tu Mo Rong district, more than 300 hectares are planted under the forest canopy of Ngoc Linh Ginseng Joint Stock Company and Dak To Forestry Company Limited, mainly concentrated in the commune. Mang Ri is the first commune to implement a model of cooperation between Ngoc Linh Ginseng Joint Stock Company and local households to plant, care for and protect Ngoc Linh ginseng. The model of ginseng growing association supported by the Provincial Women's Union in the commune has achieved initial results, contributing to helping female members increase their income and reduce poverty.

Thanks to the capital of Program 30a, Program 135..., in recent years, people in Mang Ri commune have also been supported to grow more than 10 hectares of Hong Dang ginseng (Ginseng) and Dong Quy ginseng; bringing the total area of ginseng here to 20 hectares - accounting for over 60% of the total area of ginseng in the district.

Although the difficulties have not been eliminated, up to now, the commune has achieved 8/19 criteria for new rural construction; including criteria on irrigation, schools, health care, culture, post office, rural market, labor structure, security and order.

Not only taking care of developing cold-weather coffee and medicinal plants to increase income, helping people reduce poverty sustainably; Now, the potential of the "spiritual land" in the old resistance war is also being aroused in the orientation of economic tourism development of the province. Along with the Provincial Party Committee Base Revolutionary Historical Site, the captivating beauty of the terraced fields, Ngoc Linh ginseng gardens, and the distant ginseng; the beauty of Dak Don waterfall, Dak Y Hai stream, and Pu Ta village with its rich identity... bring new vitality to Mang Ri on the path of construction and development. Hopefully, from the steps that have been shaped today, the "spiritual land" in the cause of national liberation and national reunification will steadily move forward in the process of development and integration./.
